STI Medical Assisting students went out into the community on Sunday, February 7th, to participate in a the REACH program sponsored by the Old Colony Y. This event was held in Brockton and encouraged patrons to gain control of their health by receiving tips and tools to reach certain goals. Information was taken on blood pressure, height and weight and BMI. Glucose and cholesterol screening was also offered. STI students had the opportunity to work with a diverse population and to practice their skills in a “real life” situation. This was a valuable, hands on clinic which helped the students enhance their communication and administrative skills and gave them the opportunity to practice customer service and patient reception. Other participants included Signature Healthcare, Steward Medical and BMC Healthway. Students were able to network with organizations for future connections.
