Just as a new school year began at Southeastern Technical Institute in South Easton, students in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico and surrounding areas were faced with hurricanes, destruction and loss. Adult students at Southeastern Technical Institute (STI) were looking for ways to help those affected by the storms.

STI students organized hurricane relief buckets to be shipped from a Brockton church which was acting as a depot for supplies. The list of supplies in each bucket included contractor trash bags, laundry detergent, scouring pads, sponges, bug spray, work gloves, clothesline, dish soap and dust masks. The students and staff contributed to complete six buckets.

Mrs. Patricia Illsley, STI Director, was thrilled with the contributions. “In the first month of school, our students and staff were able to look outside of their own needs and stressors – to think about helping someone else.  They contributed money, supplies, and their time. By doing so they were able to support those worse off than them, strangers who will never know about them or be able to thank them.  I am very proud of the STI Community.  “

STI students and staff look forward to community outreach throughout the current school year. A coat drive, holiday gift collections and other events are already planned along with 50th Anniversary celebrations. Visit www.sitech.edu to stay up-to-date with current events.
