Concord Academy, an independent boarding and day school for grades 9 through 12 located in Concord, Massachusetts, seeks a Plumber to join our Operations Team. Chartered in 1922, the school currently enrolls approximately 400 boarding and day students from 10 countries and territories and 15 states. Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Grounds the Plumber maintains and provides for the condition and operation of all plumbing systems in CA’s campus. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in all areas of plumbing (including installation, maintenance and repair, as well as, general maintenance of equipment and tools needed for this role).

This role requires hard-working, meticulous, patient, and flexible qualities. We seek a candidate who is able to communicate effectively with individuals across the school community.


Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Troubleshoot source of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs.

Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment.

Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections.

Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.

Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.

Collaborate with other members of the Operations team to complete projects as necessary.

Identify needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.

Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

Other duties could include working in other areas of the Operations department to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades or to perform duties associated with light construction projects.

Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Operations Department.

Comply with any safety rules and become familiar with school wide safety procedures.

Attend scheduled safety meetings.

Maintain shop and worksite in a clean, safe and orderly manner.

Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

Assist with selecting and purchasing necessary supplies and equipment within the purchasing guidelines for departmental use in the area of responsibility.

Remove snow by using shovel or snow blower – also includes sanding or using other deicing chemicals to properly treat campus roads or sidewalks.

Assist with supervision of the summer crew as needed.

Other duties as assigned.



High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.

5 years of experience in plumbing field.

Current MA Plumbing license.

Valid driver’s license.

Proficient in using manual and power tools and able to operate equipment common to the trade.

Knowledge of plumbing codes.

Must be familiar with pump operation, repair and maintenance: i.e. sewage ejectors, sump pumps, condensate pumps, etc.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.

Ability to safely work with mild chemicals common to the trade in a manner which protects oneself, others in the area of the work, and to the environment.

Safety conscious.

Exhibit a positive attitude and serve as a positive role model for students and the community.

Must pass background checks.

Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team.

Good interpersonal and skills communication.

A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to follow directions is essential.

Mental and Physical Demands, and Environmental Factors: Physical ability to lift 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, balancing, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Ability to operate hand, power, and bench tools. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, on ladders and scaffolding, and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures and excessive noises. Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

This position is an essential employee of the school in the event of an emergency or inclement weather.
