Tip of the Week: Checking a Temperature
- Make sure the patient hasn’t had anything to eat, drink or smoke for 30 minutes before checking your temperature orally to ensure the most accurate results!
- When checking a child’s temperature with a tympanic thermometer, make sure to pull the ear down and back before inserting the thermometer. For an adult, pull the ear up and back to ensure the most accurate reading.
