Alicia Vye of Norton has been named the 2018 Massachusetts Vocational Association’s outstanding Post-Secondary Vocational Technical Student. Ms. Vye, enrolled in the Medical Assisting Program at Southeastern Technical Institute, will graduate with her post-secondary certificate this spring.

Criteria for the award included personal commitment to vocational education and to the program, success in the vocational technical clinical affiliations, success in academic areas, evidence of good personal character and leadership, and involvement in school and community activities.

Medical Assisting Program Director Susan Beer, M.Ed., CMA (AAMA), said, “Alicia has consistently demonstrated a keen interest in learning the material and applying those concepts in Lab settings. She volunteers to assist students who may struggle with certain concepts. She can make real world connections from the text and then explain or expound on various topics in easy-to-understand language. She is professional, maintains excellent grades, and is attentive to the program policies.  She also volunteers in the community for several fundraisers as well as student activities on campus. She is representative of the type of medical assistant who will immerse herself in her practice in order for her patients to reap the most benefit.”

Ms. Vye will receive the award, for $500, at the Massachusetts Vocational Association annual conference and banquet in March at the Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel featuring guest speaker Governor Charlie Baker.
