On Sunday, October 22nd, four STI Dental Assisting students and their Program Director were guests at the Massachusetts Dental Assistants Association’s dental education workshop sponsored by The Elizabeth Ann Baer Scholarship Foundation (www.elizabethannbaerfoundation.org).  The event was held at the Boston-Dedham Holiday Inn and Conference Center. The following attended this worthwhile event: Cynthia Frejuste (DA Student), Dr. Hassan (DA Program Director), Travis Broussard (DA Student), Olivia Gaspar (DA Student), and Tiffany Pina (DA Student).

Two courses were presented;

Tuberculosis Awareness in the Dental Setting by Pat Iyer, MSN, RN, BS. Pat is currently the Director of Disease Investigation and Case Management for the Massachusetts Department of Health’s Division of Global Population and Infectious Disease Prevention providing clinical oversight and support to the Nursing Team of the Tuberculosis Program.

Special Needs Patient – An Overview & Increasing Access to Care for Massachusetts’ Residents by Katherine M. Pelullo, RDH, M.Ed. Katherine practices dental hygiene in a private practice one day a week while she is primarily employed as a hygienist in public health coordinating a preventive dental program for individuals with developmental and other types of disabilities. An advocate for all dental auxiliaries, Katherine has been involved on all levels of MDHA and currently serves as the Trustee for the Wachusett Component.

All Southeastern Technical Institute Dental Assisting Students become student members of the Massachusetts Dental Assistants Association. The Association’s mission is to advance the careers of dental assistants and to promote the dental assisting profession in matters of education, legislation, credentialing and professional activities which enhances the delivery of quality dental health care to the public.
