When Jeanette Shalginewicz of East Bridgewater wanted to refresh her hair color this month, she decided to try the new hair salon at Southeastern Technical Institute, in South Easton. She was very pleased with the results, which took out the brassiness from her blonde hair and gave her a more natural tone. “I’ve been coming to the high school salon for 25 years, and I thought I would try this. It’s well supervised, and I love the results,” she said.
Jeanette is one of dozens of customers who are quickly becoming regulars at the evening cosmetology clinic, open Tuesday and Thursday evenings by appointment. It has been open since October, and it is staffed by the school’s first class of cosmetology students, who started school last March.
“It’s been very, very busy,” said Debbie Lapworth, one of three cosmetology instructors that supervise the students. “The prices are amazing, and the services are less than one-third the cost of regular salons,” she said.
The salon offers a wide range of services, with the most popular being hair color, styling, and manicures. The facility also has professional, top-of-the-line equipment and supplies, including plush, cushioned seats for manicures and pedicures, and first-rate hair products, including Matrix and Goldwell.
“I’ve been happy with everything. This is the best place to go because they get it right,” said Maggie Myers, of Stoughton.
The students who serve the customers have all had more than 700 hours of instruction, which is more than required to work with the public. Many of the clients are family members and friends, but word is quickly spreading, and the clinic is booking more new customers as the year progresses.
One of the best deals include a day of beauty, which includes a choice of any three services for $30, including spa manicure, spa pedicure, spa facial, shampoo and style, waxing, and scalp or conditioning treatment.
